The Trust's main aim, and an ambitious one, is to ensure that all the original volumes on England are thoroughly revised and brought up to date, and that coverage of the Buildings of Wales is at last completed. The Buildings of England: the County Volumes The original series covered England in 46 volumes. We are planning a wholly revised and enlarged second series of 56 books, of which 22 have been published and a further 16 are under way. The next to appear, all in 2009, will be Berkshire, North Lancashire, North Hampshire, North Somerset and the first volume of two to replace the old West Riding volume. It will include Leeds, Bradford and the Dales. We urgently need help to complete the research for the southern part of the historic county, and for a new version of the North Riding. Further north and west, a revised book on the Lake Counties is well advanced. The Leverhulme Foundation have generously funded the research for this book, and for a new version of Cheshire. At the other end of the country, the long-awaited East Sussex is making good progress well, and in the far south west Cornwall is in hand. Both these projects are only partially funded and new sponsors would be very welcome. Donors will be commemorated in the published books, which can be expected to remain in print for many years. The City Guides With the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund and English heritage the Trust has sponsored a new series of bargain-priced paperback guides to some of England's major cities. These new books, based on much fresh research, are very accessible but make no compromises in authority and reliability. Since 2001 we have published guides to Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield. They have widened the readership of the while Pevsner guides series, and work is under way on Brighton & Hove, Gateshead and Newcastle and Nottingham. Prospects look good for Hull. If your city is not on the list and you think it should be, we'd be delighted to hear your suggestions and your ideas for funding the work. The Buildings of Wales Gwynedd will complete the series, and is expected in the bookshops in 2009. The Buildings of Scotlan Trust The Buildings of Scotland Trust, founded in 1991 and sponsored by Historic Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, raises funds and manages the research programme needed to complete the Scottish series. The basic research is now done and published guides now cover over half the country but money is still needed to finish the series. The Trust would be particularly grateful to hear from those interested in supporting major projects in Aberdeen and the North East. The early books in the series now need refreshing, funding is sought for the new versions of Lothian, Edinburgh and Glasgow already envisaged. The Buildings of Ireland Charitable Trust The Buildings of Ireland Charitable Trust was established in 2005 (registered charity no. 398546 (Ireland)) and aims to support and finance the research and writing of future Buildings of Ireland volumes. Kevin Mulligan is working on South Ulster (Monaghan, Cavan and Armagh) and Andrew Tierney and Alistair Rowan are making progress on West Leinster (Laois and Offaly). Funding is needed to sustain and develop this work and the Trust will be very pleased to hear from donors and supporters.
